Welcome to Your Smart Classroom!
The Smart protocol for classroom technology is designed to make using computer, video, CD, and DVD playing as easy as possible. Please, do not hesitate to address questions about the Smart classrooms to Library & Information Services. We can be contacted via E-mail (helpdesk@dickinson.edu), telephone (x1000), or by visiting the Help Desk on the lower level of the Waidner-Spahr Library..

To Turn on the Video Projector:
Find the remote for the Sanyo projector (see image above). To turn the projector on, point the remote at the front of the projector and push the pink "On-Off" button. Do not adjust the sound volume on the projector remote; use the sound system control (see below). Use the "Computer" or "Video" buttons on the remote to select your projection source. To turn the projector off, push the pink "On-Off" button on the remote. At the "Power off?" prompt, press the pink "On-Off" button again.  The projector fan will continue to run until the unit is cooled down; it will shut down automatically.

About the Sympodium
This unit allows you to draw over the computer image using the attached pen. There are many functions available, please refer to the manual provided for instructions. If not using these features, the button at the top of the unit with an arrow symbol should be lit for normal mouse function. If it is not, press that button to enable it.

To Turn on & View the Computer:
To use the computer, you will need to press the power button on the computer. Once the computer has completely booted-up, you can access programs like PowerPoint, Word, and Internet Explorer by clicking the icons on the screen. To project the computer screen, with the projector on, press the "Computer" button on the Sanyo remote to select "Computer 1"

To use a laptop or document camera
note: Two document cameras on carts are shared between rooms 109, 113, and 116. To use either document camera or a laptop: with the projector on, press the "Computer" button on the Sanyo remote to select "Computer 2".The VGA connection located in the "well" on the left side of the podium is used for both. If a document camera is used, the cable connected to "VGA out" connection on back of document camera should be plugged into the laptop cable from the podium (it has a female end to connect to the male end from the podium). There is also a USB cable from the document camera that connects to a matching connector on the podium.
If there is no document camera, connect a laptop directly to the VGA cable from the podium. Otherwise, a laptop can be connected to the "VGA 1" jack on the back of the document camera using the provided cable and selected using the "VGA 1" button on the document camera (use the "main" button to go back to the camera). If using sound, connect the "mini" sound plug provided to the laptop headphone jack. With the projector ON, press the LAPTOP button on the MediaLink. You may need to press a function key on your laptop to enable the external monitor function (may be marked "LCD/CRT" or with a monitor icon).
Please note: if connecting the laptop to the network cable provided, be aware that it must be configured to use the building network. Contact the helpdesk in advance for help with network settings.

With the data projector on, press the "video" button on the Sanyo remote. If a TV channel is showing, you can eliminate it by selecting "line 2" input (located below channel 2 - use the channel down button). Insert your CD, DVD, or cassette into the appropriate drawer or slot and press the "Play" button. To eject your disc or cassette, press the "Open/Close" button. To Control the Sound Level:
You can control the sound for either the computer or the CD/DVD/VCR unit using the room's sound system. The sound system controller (see image above) is attached to the desktop. Be aware. The volume controls on the computer interact with those of the sound system, so adjusting the volume on the computer will change the level of sound from the sound system as well
