Welcome to Your Smart Classroom!
The Smart protocol for classroom technology is designed to make using computer, video, CD, and DVD playing as easy as possible. Please, do not hesitate to address questions about the Smart classrooms to Library & Information Services. We can be contacted via E-mail (helpdesk@dickinson.edu), telephone (x1000), or by visiting the Help Desk on the lower level of the Waidner-Spahr Library.

Default Controller Settings:

On the controller you will see two buttons to the left, one for speaker A another for speaker B. The speakers will only operate properly if speaker A is pressed down and speaker B left up. Ensure that the TAPE 2 MONITOR light (red) is off.Note that the volume control for the speakers in the front of the room is located on the lower left hand side on the side of the controller.

To Turn on the Video Projector:
Find the remote for the Sanyo projector (see image above). To turn the projector on, point the remote at the front of the projector and push the pink "On-Off" button. Do not adjust the sound volume on the projector remote; use the sound system control (see below). Use the "Input" button on the remote to select your projection source; keep pushing it to cycle through your options. To turn the projector off, push the pink "On-Off" button on the remote. At the "Power off?" prompt, press the pink "On-Off" button again.  The projector fan will continue to run until the unit is cooled down; it will shut down automatically.

To Turn on & View the Computer:
To use the computer, you will need to press the power button on the back of the iMac. Button #1 on the switcher between the presenter and AV equipment should be selected. To project the computer screen, with the projector on, press the "Input" button on the Sanyo remote until "Computer" is selected. When you are done with the computer, click the "Apple" pull down menu, then choose "Shut down." If you need to use a different computer with the projector, please contact Library & Information Services (x1000) for assistance.
For help in using the SmartBoard, please refer to the manual provided.

To Use the visual presenter (document camera):
Turn on the presenter using either the button on the unit itself or the remote control. To project, follow instructions to project computer but press button #2 on the switcher located next to the presenter. You can preview the image on the computer screen by opening the application "SDP-860 viewer".

To Play & View a DVD, Videotape, or CD:

Insert your CD, DVD, or cassette into the appropriate drawer or slot and press the "Play" button on the JVC remote. You may need to select the appropriate mode with the DVD or VCR buttons. If a TV channel is showing, you can eliminate it by pressing the "AUX" button on the JVC remote. To eject your disc or cassette, press the "Open/Close" button.
Note: This unit will play DVD's from all regions of the world. It will only play NTSC (US format) VHS tapes however.

You may need to pressthe "AUX" button on the JVC remote several times to select the tuner mode. You can change channels by using the channel up and down buttons in the middle area of the remote (not the ones in the upper right area) or by using the keypad on the JVC remote to enter the channel number. Please press the "AUX" button on the JVC remote when done to turn off the cable TV for other users.

To Control the Sound Level:
You can control the sound for either the computer or the CD/DVD/VCR unit using the room's sound system. The sound system controller (see image above) is attached to the desktop. To turn the sound system on, turn the knob clockwise. You can adjust the sound level by turning the knob clockwise or counter-clockwise. Be aware. The volume controls on the computer interact with those of the sound system, so adjusting the volume on the computer will change the level of sound from the sound system as well. To turn the sound system off, turn the knob counter-clockwise until it clicks.
